Misty Copeland

Misty Copeland is a super-talented dancer who leaps and twirls with American Ballet Theatre, one of the most famous ballet groups ever! She's like a real-life princess who dances on stage. But guess what?

She didn't even start dancing until she was 13 years old, which is pretty late for a ballerina! She became so good, so fast, that she became a principal dancer, which is like being the captain of the ballet team!

Misty's journey to the stage was a bit like a rollercoaster! When she was a teenager, she was already winning awards for her dancing. But there was a time when her family had to figure out who would take care of her.

Even with all that going on, Misty kept practicing and got offers to dance professionally. She moved back home and found a new teacher who helped her get even better, leading her to join the big ballet company!

Misty Copeland is super important because she was the very first African American woman to become a principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre. That's a HUGE deal! She showed everyone that if you work hard and believe in yourself, you can achieve amazing things, no matter what. She's also written books and appeared on TV, inspiring lots of kids to follow their dreams, just like she did!
