Mikhail Gerasimov (archaeologist)

Mikhail Gerasimov was a super-smart scientist from a long time ago in a country called the Soviet Union. He was an archaeologist, which means he dug up old things from the ground to learn about people who lived thousands of years ago. He was also an anthropologist, studying how humans have changed. But his most amazing skill was like being a detective for faces from the past!

Mikhail had a special talent. He looked at old skulls, which are the bones in our heads. He used his knowledge of how muscles and skin fit on a skull, like putting together a puzzle. He would carefully build up clay or other materials on the skull to make a face that looked just like the person who owned it, even if they lived thousands of years ago!

His work is super cool because it helps us see what people looked like from ancient times. Imagine seeing the face of someone who lived when dinosaurs were around, or a king from long ago! He recreated over 200 faces, from very early humans to famous rulers. It’s like having a time machine for faces!
