Meet the Mighty Mikael!

Mikael Sehul was a very important man in Ethiopia a long, long time ago. He was born in 1692 and lived to be 92 years old, which is super old! A Leader's Long Life

Mikael Sehul was a nobleman, which means he came from a very important family. He became the main helper, or regent, for the young emperors. He was like a principal for a very long time, guiding the country. He was also the governor of Tigray, a big part of Ethiopia. He was in charge there for over 20 years! He saw many emperors come and go, and he was always there, helping to make big decisions.

What Made Him Special?

Mikael Sehul was known for being very smart and thoughtful. An explorer named James Bruce met him and said Mikael looked like he had a brilliant mind! Even though he was getting older and had a sore eye, his eyes were quick and showed he was paying attention.

He was about as tall as a grown-up man, maybe a little taller than your dad! He didn't talk a lot, but when he did, his words were very important.

A Friend to Explorers!

When James Bruce, a Scottish explorer, came to Ethiopia, he met Mikael Sehul. Bruce was very impressed by him! He described Mikael as looking wise and having a face that showed how smart he was. Mikael was so important that even visitors from far away wanted to meet him and hear his ideas. He was a key person in Ethiopia's story for a very long time.
