Meet the Ancient Village of Mehrgarh!

Long, long ago, even before the pyramids were built, there was a special place called Mehrgarh. It's like a giant ancient village in a country called Pakistan. People first started living here a super long time ago, maybe even 7,000 years ago! That's older than your great-great-great-great-grandparents' grandparents! It was a farming village, which means people grew their own food right there.

When Did People Live Here?

Mehrgarh wasn't built all at once. It grew over a very, very long time. The oldest part of the village is in the northeast corner. Scientists think people started living there around 7,000 years ago, or maybe even a little later, like 5,250 years before the year 1000. They found lots of old things, like over 32,000 tiny treasures, buried in the ground!

Why is Mehrgarh So Cool?

Mehrgarh is super important because it shows us how people learned to farm and build villages a very long time ago. It's one of the earliest places where people started growing their own food instead of just hunting. This was a HUGE step for humans! It helped them settle down and build bigger communities. It's like learning to ride a bike for the first time, but for a whole civilization!

Finding This Ancient Place!

How do we know about Mehrgarh? Some super curious archaeologists from France found it in 1974. They dug and dug for many years, and they found six different mounds of earth where the village used to be. They carefully uncovered all sorts of amazing things that tell us stories about the people who lived there thousands of years ago.
