M25 Motorway

The M25 is like a super-duper, extra-long road that goes in a big circle all the way around London. It's so long, it's like driving from your house to your grandma's house and back, maybe even twice! This giant road is called the London Orbital Motorway because it orbits, or goes around, the city.

It helps cars get to places without having to drive right through the busy middle of London. It's one of the most important roads in the whole United Kingdom!

A long, long time ago, people thought it would be a good idea to build a road around London. It took many years to plan and build this enormous road. The very last part of the M25 was opened in 1986, which is when your parents or even grandparents might have been born! When it first opened, it was the longest circle road in all of Europe. That's a super long road!

Think about all the people and things that need to get around London. The M25 helps them do that! It's like a giant helper for trucks carrying toys, buses taking people to fun places, and cars going on holidays. Because it goes around the city, it means less traffic jams in the middle of London. It's a very busy road, with lots and lots of cars using it every single day!

Did you know the M25 is 117 miles long? That's like walking to school and back for a whole week! Sometimes, the M25 gets very busy, and cars have to go slower. To help with this, they have special signs that can change the speed limit. It's also been made wider in some places, like near a big airport called Heathrow, so more cars can fit!
