Ludo: The Race to Home!

Ludo is a board game where you and your friends (or family!) try to be the first to get all four of your special playing pieces from the starting area all the way to the finish line. You move your pieces by rolling a single dice. It’s like a race on a colorful board! The word Ludo even comes from a Latin word that means '[I] play'. How cool is that?

Ludo is like a younger cousin to a very, very old Indian game called Pachisi. Imagine a game that's been played for hundreds and hundreds of years! Pachisi was played on a different kind of board, often shaped like a cross. Over time, people in different countries changed the game a little bit, and Ludo became super popular everywhere. It's a game that has traveled the world!

Ludo is exciting because it’s a mix of luck and thinking! You need to roll the dice just right to move your pieces, but you also have to decide which piece to move. Sometimes you can even send an opponent’s piece back to the start if you land on the same spot! It’s a game that makes you think and cheer when you get a good roll. Everyone loves a good race!

To win Ludo, you need to get all four of your colored pieces safely into the home triangle at the center of the board. You start by rolling a 6 to get a piece out of your yard and onto the starting square. Then, you roll the dice and move your pieces around the board.

If you land on a square with an opponent's piece, you can send them back to their yard! The first player to get all their pieces home wins the game!
