London Stansted Airport

Imagine a giant playground for airplanes! Stansted Airport is a huge place near a town called Stansted. It's like a big city just for planes and people who want to fly. It's about as far away from the middle of London as you can get by car in about an hour. This airport is so big, it's like a whole town dedicated to travel!

Stansted is like a super-connector! It's the third busiest airport for London, which means lots and lots of planes take off and land here every day. From Stansted, you can fly to over 180 different places, mostly in Europe, but also in Asia and North Africa. It’s a major hub for a special kind of airline called 'low-cost carriers', which means flying can be more affordable!

The main building at Stansted is super cool and looks a bit like a giant, upside-down boat or a spaceship! It opened a long time ago, in 1991. It was designed by clever architects who wanted it to be special. Inside, there are three smaller buildings where you wait for your plane, connected to the main building. It’s famous for being a really smart design for airports!

Stansted has been super popular, especially with people who love to travel cheaply. For a while, it was so busy that nearly 24 million people flew through it in just one year! That's more people than live in some big cities. Even though things changed for a bit, it's still a very important place for flying to lots of different countries.
