Have you ever heard of a Pope? A Pope is like a very important leader for people who follow the Catholic Church. The word 'pope' comes from a word that means 'father'. These special leaders have been around for a super long time, guiding people and making important decisions. It's like having a really, really old family tree, but for leaders!

The very first Pope was Saint Peter, and since then, there have been many, many more! If you lined them all up, it would be a very long parade. Some Popes only led for a short time, while others were leaders for many, many years. It's like some kids are in kindergarten for a year, and others might stay in the same school for a long time!

Guess what? A lot of these Popes were also considered saints, which means they were really good and holy people. In fact, almost half of the first 50 Popes were saints! And even more amazing, out of the first 31 Popes, 28 of them died as martyrs, which means they were very brave and stood up for what they believed in, even when it was dangerous.

Sometimes, it's tricky to know exactly who was the 'real' Pope because, a long time ago, there were even a few people who said they were Pope but weren't! So, historians have to be super careful to figure out the correct list. It's like trying to find the right book in a giant library – you need to know the exact title!
