California's Big Backyard!

Imagine a place so big it's the third-largest in the whole United States! That's California! It has sunny beaches, tall mountains, and even deserts. It's a super diverse place with lots of different kinds of weather and landscapes. Think of it like a giant playground with many different areas to explore, from sandy shores to snowy peaks.

How California Got Its Towns

Long, long ago, Native American people lived in California. Then, explorers came, and people started building towns. The very first town to officially become a city was Sacramento in 1850. That's older than your grandparents' grandparents! Since then, California has grown and grown, with new towns popping up all the time.

Who Lives in California?

Lots and lots of people call California home! It's the most crowded state in the whole country. People from all over the world have come to live here, bringing their own traditions and foods. This makes California a really interesting place with many different cultures all living together.

California's Super Cities!

California has 483 cities and towns! The biggest is Los Angeles, which is super huge with almost 4 million people! That's more people than you can count on all your fingers and toes many, many times over. The smallest town is Amador City, with only about 200 people, which is like a small school class.
