Brazil: A Land Far, Far Away!

Brazil is a HUGE country in South America, a continent across the ocean. It has amazing rainforests, like the Amazon, and long, sandy beaches. The weather is usually warm and sunny, perfect for playing outside! It's so big, it's like having many countries all in one place. This special land was once ruled by royalty, just like in fairy tales!

When Brazil Had a Royal Family

A long, long time ago, Brazil wasn't its own country with a president. It was part of Portugal, a country in Europe. But then, the royal family from Portugal moved to Brazil! Later, Brazil became its own kingdom, and then an empire with emperors and empresses. They were like the kings and queens of Brazil, making important decisions for the country.

Meet Brazil's Emperors!

The first emperor was Pedro I, who was like the superhero who declared Brazil's independence! He was followed by his son, Pedro II. Imagine ruling for a very, very long time, like Pedro II did! He was on the throne for 74 years! That's longer than you've been alive, and longer than your parents and grandparents have been alive, all put together!

How Brazil Changed Its Mind

After many years of being ruled by emperors, the people of Brazil decided they wanted a different kind of government. So, in 1889, a group of soldiers helped change Brazil into a republic, which is a country led by a president. The emperors' time was over, and Brazil started a new chapter in its amazing story.
