Letitia James

Letitia James, or 'Tish' as her friends call her, is a very important person in New York! She's like the chief detective and rule-keeper for the whole state. She became the Attorney General, which means she's the top lawyer for New York. She's the first Black woman and the first woman ever to hold this amazing job. Imagine being the first to do something super cool!

Letitia grew up in a place called Brooklyn, which is part of New York City. She went to college and then became a lawyer. She worked hard helping people who needed a lawyer and even worked for the government. Then, she became a City Council member, which is like being a helper for the city's leaders. She was so good that she became the Public Advocate, helping even more people!

One of the coolest things Letitia James did was to make a big company pay a lot of money for not following the rules. It was like telling someone they had to clean up their mess and pay for it! She also ran for governor, which is like being the boss of the whole state, but then decided to stay as the top lawyer. She's always fighting for what's right!
