Where is This Mountain Kingdom?
Lesotho is a super special country in Africa, but it's not on the coast! It's like a secret hideaway, completely surrounded by a much bigger country called South Africa. Think of it like a tiny island inside a huge lake. It's one of only three countries in the whole world that are like this! It's also super high up, with mountains everywhere, making it a very bumpy and beautiful place.
A King's Big Idea!
A long, long time ago, a wise king named Moshoeshoe I wanted to keep his people safe. He was so clever that he made friends with a faraway country called the United Kingdom to help protect them. Later, Lesotho became its own independent country in 1966. It's still a kingdom today, with a king on the throne, just like in fairy tales!
Amazing Mountains and Tallest Peaks!
Lesotho is famous for its incredible mountains! It's home to the highest peak in all of Southern Africa. Imagine climbing a mountain that's taller than 100 giraffes stacked on top of each other! Because it's so high, the weather can be quite cold, especially in winter, with snow sometimes dusting the mountaintops. It's a land of dramatic views and fresh, crisp air.
The Basotho People and Their Language
Most of the people in Lesotho are called Basotho, and they are very proud of their unique culture. They even have their own special language called Sesotho, which sounds beautiful! English is also spoken there, so people can chat in a couple of different ways. The Basotho people are known for their colorful blankets and their strong sense of community.
