Leonard Hilty

Imagine a super strong player on a football team! That was Leonard Hilty. He played a super important job called 'tackle' for the University of Pittsburgh. He was so good that everyone agreed he was one of the best players in the whole country in 1918. He was like the star of the team, helping them win games!

Leonard Hilty grew up in a big city called Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania. He went to a school called Peabody High School, just like you might go to school. After being a star player there, he went to college at the University of Pittsburgh. He was part of a special group called a fraternity, and he kept playing football for his college team, the Panthers!

Being named to the 'All-America Team' is a HUGE deal! It means you are one of the very best players in all of America. Leonard Hilty was so amazing that he was chosen for this special team in 1918. Think of it like being picked for the best playground team ever, but for football players all over the country!

After he finished playing college football, Leonard Hilty moved to a new place called Houston, in Texas. He got married and had two children. He worked for many years selling paper, which is like being a helper for businesses. He lived a long and happy life and passed away when he was 81 years old.
