Laura Dahlmeier

Imagine a super-fast race where you also have to be super still to shoot a target! That's biathlon, and Laura Dahlmeier was amazing at it. She was a German athlete who loved to ski really fast and then, when she stopped, she would aim and shoot with a rifle. It's like playing tag and then trying to knock down pins with a water gun, but way harder and much faster!

Laura Dahlmeier won SO many medals, it's hard to count! She won five gold medals at one big competition called the World Championships. That's like getting five gold stars on your report card all at once!

She also won medals at the Winter Olympics, which is a huge sports party for countries all over the world. She was so good, she retired when she was only 25 years old because she had already achieved so much.

To be a great biathlete, you need two special skills. First, you need to be a fantastic skier, zooming down snowy hills like a rocket. Second, you need to be calm and focused when you stop to shoot. Imagine running around a playground as fast as you can, then stopping to try and toss a tiny ball into a small hoop. Laura was a champion at both!

Laura Dahlmeier loved sports and she also loved the mountains. Sadly, she passed away in 2025 while exploring the mountains. Even though she's not competing anymore, people remember her as a brave and talented athlete who showed everyone what it means to be a champion in biathlon.
