Ken Rosewall
Key Facts
Meet the Tennis Tornado!
Imagine a super-fast tennis player who was amazing at hitting the ball with his left hand, but learned to play with his right! That was Ken Rosewall. He was a bit shorter than many players, about as tall as a grown-up, but he was super quick on the court. He loved to run and jump to hit the ball, especially with his powerful backhand. He won so many matches, it's hard to count them all!
From Sunny Australia to the World Stage!
Ken Rosewall came from Australia, a big country with sunny beaches and kangaroos! He started playing tennis when he was very young. His dad taught him how to play, and he got really, really good. He played in big tennis tournaments all over the world, from the 1950s all the way to the 1970s. That's like playing for your whole school life and even longer!
A Backhand That Packed a Punch!
Ken Rosewall had a special move called a backhand. Itβs when you hit the ball on the side of your body opposite your dominant hand. His backhand was so strong and accurate that it surprised his opponents! Even though his serve wasn't the fastest, his quick feet and amazing volleys (hitting the ball before it bounces) made him a champion. He won 147 singles titles in his career!
Tennis Champion Extraordinaire!
Ken Rosewall was so good that he was ranked the number one tennis player in the world for several years! He won 23 major championships, which are like the Super Bowl of tennis. He even won some of these big tournaments without losing a single game in any match! That's like getting all 'A's on every test for a whole semester!
