Key Facts
When the Rivers Got SUPER BIG!
On a hot summer day, July 4, 2025, something amazing and scary happened in a place called Central Texas. The rivers there, like the Guadalupe River, decided to grow really, really fast! They got so big and powerful that they flooded the land. It was like the rivers were trying to reach the sky! This made it hard for people and animals to stay safe.
Rain, Rain, Go Away... NOT!
How did the rivers get so big? It rained a LOT! Imagine pouring four months' worth of rain all at once, like a giant bathtub overflowing. In some places, it rained over 20 inches! That's taller than many kids! This super-duper rainstorm was caused by a special kind of weather that brought lots of water from faraway oceans.
A River That Moved Like a Race Car!
The Guadalupe River was super speedy! In just 45 minutes, it rose as high as a two-story building! In one spot, it jumped up almost 30 feet in the Hunt area. This was so fast that many children at a summer camp were lost. It was a very sad day for many families.
Helping Hands and Brave Rescuers
After the water finally went down, lots of people came to help. Over 2,000 volunteers, like superheroes, arrived to search for people who were missing. Firefighters and rescue teams from all over the United States worked hard to find survivors. People brought food and supplies to help everyone who needed it.
