Meet José Luzán, the Painting Pro!

Imagine a super talented artist named José Luzán who lived a long, long time ago, from 1710 to 1785. He was a painter, which means he used brushes and colors to make beautiful pictures. His dad was also a painter, and even his wife's dad was an artist! So, art was like a family business for José. He was so good that he even started his own art school to teach other people how to paint.

From Spain to Art School!

José Luzán was born in Spain. When he was a young artist, he got to travel and study in a city called Naples. There, he met another famous painter who taught him even more cool painting tricks. After learning a lot, José came back to his hometown and opened a special school for art. Lots of students loved his school, and it became very popular. He was like the star teacher of his town!

Painting with Bright Colors!

At first, José's paintings were a little dark, like a cloudy day. But as he got older and learned more, his paintings became super bright and cheerful! He started using lots of warm colors like sunny yellow, earthy brown (ochre), and fiery red. His paintings looked so lively and full of energy. He became known for painting big, important pictures, especially for churches.

Teaching Future Stars!

José Luzán wasn't just a great painter himself, he was also an amazing teacher. He taught many students who later became famous artists too! Two of his most famous students were Francisco Bayeu and a super-duper famous artist named Francisco Goya. Goya became so famous that his paintings are known all over the world. José helped make these artists shine!
