The Man Who Wore Two Faces!

John Wayne Gacy was a grown-up who lived in a town near Chicago. He seemed like a normal neighbor, but he had a very dark secret. He was known as the 'Killer Clown' because sometimes he would dress up as a clown and make people laugh.

But when he wasn't in his clown costume, he was doing terrible things to young men and boys. It's like having a friend who is super nice one minute and then does something mean the next, but much, much worse.

Secrets Under the Floorboards!

Gacy did his terrible deeds inside his own house. He would trick people into coming inside, sometimes by pretending to show them a magic trick. Then, he would hurt them.

He hid the bodies of many of his victims in a dark, spooky place under his house called a crawl space. Imagine hiding toys under your bed, but instead, he hid something very, very sad. Some people were even thrown into a river.

A Scary Surprise!

For a long time, nobody knew what Gacy was doing. People started to wonder where some teenagers had gone. When the police finally looked closer at Gacy's house, they found out the awful truth. It was a huge shock to everyone! He was caught because one teenager, named Robert Piest, went missing, and the police investigated Gacy. This discovery helped stop him from hurting anyone else.

Why We Remember This Story

This story is important because it reminds us that sometimes people who seem nice can be hiding bad things. It's a sad story, but it helps us learn to be careful and to listen to grown-ups who tell us to stay safe. The police worked very hard to find out what happened and to make sure Gacy couldn't do any more harm. It shows how important it is for people to look out for each other.
