John Bevis

Imagine a doctor who loved looking at the sky! That was John Bevis. He lived a long, long time ago, from 1695 to 1771.

He was super curious about everything, from how our bodies work to what's way up in space. He even went to a famous school called Oxford University! But his most amazing discovery was something called the Crab Nebula.

It looks like a fuzzy patch in the sky, but it's actually a giant cloud of stardust!

John Bevis wasn't just a sky-watcher. He was also a clever doctor who helped people. One day, someone asked him why flowers wouldn't grow in their garden.

John found out the well water was full of iron, like a rusty pipe! He helped them dig a new well, and the water was so good, it became famous! People came from everywhere to drink it, and it helped start a popular place called Bagnigge Wells.

It was like a natural spa!

The Crab Nebula is a super cool thing John Bevis found in 1731. It's what's left after a giant star exploded a long, long time ago! It looks like a crab because of its shape.

It's so far away that even with a telescope, it looks like a small, cloudy spot. But it's actually huge, bigger than our whole solar system! John Bevis was one of the first people to see it and realize it was something special.

John Bevis was awesome because he was good at so many things! He was a doctor who cared about helping people feel better, like when he figured out the well water.
