Who Was Jing Ke, the Super Spy?

Jing Ke was a super brave person from a long, long time ago in China, over 2,000 years ago! He lived when China was split into different kingdoms, like teams playing a game. Jing Ke was a special kind of helper called a 'youxia.' He was known for being really good at his job, which was to protect his prince. He was like a secret agent, but from ancient times!

The Big Mission: Stopping a King!

Jing Ke's most famous story is about a very important mission. The king of the Qin kingdom, King Zheng, was becoming super powerful and wanted to rule all of China. Prince Dan of the Yan kingdom, Jing Ke's boss, was worried. So, he asked Jing Ke to go and try to stop King Zheng! It was a very dangerous plan, like trying to sneak past the biggest kid on the playground.

Did the Plan Work?

Jing Ke bravely went to see King Zheng. He even brought a special gift to get close to the king. But, sadly, the mission didn't work out as planned. King Zheng was too quick and managed to get away. Even though Jing Ke didn't succeed, his story is still told today because he was so courageous. He tried to do something very difficult for his prince and his kingdom.

Why We Remember Jing Ke

Jing Ke is remembered because his story is part of a famous book written by a historian named Sima Qian. This book tells all about brave people and important events from ancient China. Jing Ke's attempt to stop King Zheng is a famous tale of bravery and loyalty. King Zheng later became the first emperor of a united China, so Jing Ke tried to stop a very, very important person!
