Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., professionally known as Irv Gotti, emerged from the vibrant New York hip-hop scene of the 1980s, initially as a DJ named DJ Irv. His transition into the business side began in 1995 when he joined TVT Records as an A&R talent scout, a role that honed his ability to identify promising artists.

By 1997, he moved to Def Jam Recordings, a major player in the industry. However, his most significant entrepreneurial venture was the co-founding of Murder Inc. Records in 1999 with his brother Chris.

He starred in the VH1 reality series 'Gotti's Way' and, more significantly, created the BET anthology series 'Tales,' which creatively explored narratives through music and became a successful venture.
