Who Took Over the Building?

One day, a group of students in Iran decided to take over the American Embassy in Tehran. They were upset with the United States and wanted something to happen. They grabbed 66 Americans who worked there, like diplomats and other helpers. It was like a surprise takeover that lasted a super long time!

How Long Were They Stuck?

The people inside the embassy were stuck for 444 days! That's more than a whole year. Imagine missing your birthday, holidays, and just being stuck in one place. It was a very long and difficult time for everyone involved, and the world watched to see what would happen next.

A Big Surprise Rescue!

While most people were still held, six Americans managed to hide and escape! Then, with a clever plan called the 'Canadian Caper,' they were secretly rescued. It was like a spy movie, and these six got to go home safely while the others were still waiting.

Finally, Freedom!

After 444 long days, the hostages were finally set free! It happened right after a new president, Ronald Reagan, started his job. The people who had been held were so happy to see their families again. It was a huge relief for everyone, and the world breathed a sigh of relief too.
