Rodent Babies: A Tough Start!

Imagine tiny baby mice or rats, just born! Sometimes, sadly, they get hurt or even eaten by other animals. This is called infanticide. It can happen when a mother rodent is super stressed out, maybe because she doesn't have enough food or feels unsafe. Or, a different male rodent might hurt the babies. It sounds scary, but it's a real thing that happens in the wild!

It might seem strange for a mom to hurt her own babies, but sometimes it's a way to survive.
