The Spotted Cat of Spain!

Imagine a cat with big, fluffy ear tufts and a spotted coat like a tiny leopard. That's the Iberian lynx! It's a special wild cat that lives only on a peninsula called Iberia, which is mostly Spain and Portugal. These cats are about as big as a medium-sized dog, but much more wild and wonderful. They love to hide in bushes and trees, making them tricky to spot!

A Long, Long Time Ago...

These amazing cats have been around for a super long time, maybe even a million years! That's way, way longer than people have been building cities. For many years, they were quite common. But then, sadly, their homes got smaller, and the rabbits they love to eat became very sick. This made it hard for the lynx to find food, and their numbers dropped really low.

Super Sniffers and Speedy Pouncers!

The Iberian lynx is a super hunter! Its favorite food is the European rabbit. They have amazing eyesight and hearing to find their dinner, and they can pounce really fast. They are also very good at climbing trees to stay safe or to get a better view. These cats are mostly active when it's cooler, like in the early morning or late evening.

Saving the Spotted Cat!

For a while, it looked like the Iberian lynx might disappear forever. But lots of people worked hard to help them! They made sure the lynx had safe places to live and made sure there were plenty of rabbits to eat. Because of all this hard work, there are now more lynx than before, and they are not in as much danger. It’s a happy story about saving a special animal!
