Following extensive feasibility studies, planning, and international tenders, construction commenced. The project faced numerous delays, pushing its completion date back from the initially planned late 2016 opening.
The physical structure was declared complete on February 6, 2018, after which journalists were given a preview. The official inauguration ceremony, a high-profile event attended by General Secretary Xi Jinping, took place on October 24, 2018, marking the culmination of years of effort. The bridge was subsequently opened to public traffic the following day, symbolizing a significant milestone in China's infrastructure development and its ambition to connect and develop the GBA.
