Meet the Master Artist!

Imagine an artist who loved to draw so much, he made over 30,000 pictures! That was Hokusai, a famous artist from Japan. He lived a very long time ago, from when you were a tiny baby until you'd be about 88 years old!

Hokusai was like a drawing superhero, always trying new things and getting better and better. He painted and drew all sorts of things, but he's most famous for his amazing pictures of mountains and waves.

The Amazing Mount Fuji Pictures!

Hokusai loved Mount Fuji, a super tall volcano in Japan. He decided to draw it again and again, from different spots and in different weather. He made a whole series of pictures called 'Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji.' One of his most famous pictures is 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa.' It shows a giant, foamy wave that looks like it could swallow boats!

It's so big, it's like a wave as tall as a 5-story building!

More Than Just Mountains!

Even though Hokusai loved Mount Fuji, he didn't just draw mountains. He also drew people, animals, and even plants! Before Hokusai, many artists only drew pictures of actors or fancy ladies. But Hokusai showed everyone that art could be about anything, like beautiful nature scenes. His art was so cool that artists in faraway places like Europe were inspired by it, even people like Van Gogh!

How Did He Make Those Pictures?

Hokusai was a master at making woodblock prints. Imagine carving a picture into a block of wood, then painting it and pressing it onto paper. It's like a giant stamp! He also painted and drew in books. He kept working and creating art his whole life, always learning and trying new ways to make his pictures look amazing. His drawings were so good, people still love them today!
