Hippocrates

Imagine a time long, long ago, even before your grandparents' grandparents were born! That's when Hippocrates lived. He was a super smart doctor in ancient Greece.

People called him the 'Father of Medicine' because he had so many brilliant ideas about how to help sick people. He believed doctors should be kind and try to figure out what was wrong by carefully watching their patients. He was like a detective for bodies!

Hippocrates had a special way of looking at sickness. Instead of thinking it was magic or punishment, he thought it came from things happening inside the body. He also believed that doctors should always be honest and do their best to help. He even came up with a special promise for doctors, called the Hippocratic Oath, that doctors still say today! It’s like a promise to be a good helper.

Hippocrates taught doctors to be super observers. This means they had to watch their patients very closely to see what was happening. Were they coughing? Did they have a fever? How did they feel? By paying attention to all these little details, doctors could guess what might happen next, which is called a prognosis. This was a brand new way to think about healing!

One of the most famous things Hippocrates is known for is the Hippocratic Oath. It’s a promise that doctors make to help people and not hurt them. It’s like a superhero code for doctors! His ideas were so important that they helped medicine become its own special job, separate from magic or just guessing. He made being a doctor a real profession!
