Henry the Tuatara: A Super Old Reptile!

Imagine a lizard that's been around since the dinosaurs, but it's not a dinosaur! That's a tuatara! Henry is one of these amazing creatures. He looks a bit like a spiky, scaly lizard, but he's actually a special kind of reptile. Tuataras are super unique and live only in New Zealand. Henry is a very special tuatara because he's quite old and has lived in a special park for a long time.

Henry wasn't always in his cozy park home. He was born on a little island called Stephens Island, way up north in New Zealand. When he was a grown-up tuatara, he moved to a museum in a city called Invercargill.

That was a big move! He lived there for many years, and then, he moved again to a new, super-duper habitat in Queens Park. It's like moving from your old house to a brand new, awesome playground!

Henry has lived a long and exciting life! He was born a very, very long time ago, maybe even before your great-great-grandparents were born! In 2009, something super cool happened: Henry became a dad for the very first time!

This was a huge deal and everyone around the world wanted to know about it. He also had a little health scare, but doctors helped him get better so he could keep being awesome.

Henry is famous because tuataras are like living fossils. They are one of the oldest types of reptiles still alive today! Scientists are super interested in them because they can teach us so much about animals from long, long ago. Henry is also special because he's lived for so many years and has had his own little tuatara family. He's a celebrity in the animal world!
