A Day of Big Feelings in Chicago!

Once upon a time, in a busy city called Chicago, workers wanted shorter workdays. They wanted to work for eight hours, not more! On May 4, 1886, many people gathered in a place called Haymarket Square for a peaceful meeting. They were hoping to be heard. It was a sunny day, and people were talking about their dreams for a better work life.

Suddenly, a BOOM!

While everyone was listening, something unexpected happened. A loud explosion, like a firework but much bigger, went off! It was a bomb! No one knows who threw it. The police were there, and in the confusion, there was shouting and even some shooting. Sadly, some people got hurt, and some brave police officers lost their lives. It was a very confusing and sad moment for everyone.

Who Did It? The Big Mystery!

After the boom, people wondered who was responsible. Eight men, who believed in big changes for workers, were blamed. The grown-ups had a big trial, like in a movie. But even the people in charge weren't sure if these men actually threw the bomb. It was like trying to solve a puzzle with missing pieces. Some of the men were punished very harshly, which made many people wonder if it was fair.

Why We Still Talk About It Today!

Even though this happened a long, long time ago, it's important! It made people think about how workers are treated and how important it is to speak up for what's right. It even helped create a special day called International Workers' Day, celebrated all around the world on May 1st. It reminds us to be fair and listen to everyone's voices.
