Harvey Milk

Imagine a friendly guy named Harvey Milk who loved his city, San Francisco! He wasn't just anyone; he was a politician who wanted to make sure everyone felt welcome and safe. Harvey was the first person who was openly gay to be elected to a big job in California.

He opened a camera shop and loved talking to people. He became known as the 'Mayor of Castro Street' because he was so loved in that neighborhood!

Harvey was born a long time ago in New York. When he grew up, he moved to the colorful city of San Francisco. This was a time when lots of people who were gay or lesbian were moving to a special neighborhood called the Castro.

Harvey decided to run for a job helping the city, called a supervisor. He tried a few times, and even though he didn't win at first, he kept trying because he believed in his city and its people.

Harvey's most amazing superpower was fighting for fairness! He believed that everyone should be treated the same, whether they were looking for a home, a job, or just wanted to go to a restaurant. He helped create a rule that said it was against the law to be mean to someone just because of who they loved. This was a HUGE step for making sure everyone felt included and respected.

Sadly, Harvey Milk was not able to finish his work because he was hurt by someone who didn't agree with his ideas. But even though he is not here anymore, his message of hope and fairness lives on! He is remembered as a hero who showed everyone that it's important to stand up for what's right and to make sure all voices are heard. His bravery inspires people even today!
