He was born a long time ago, in 1954, and he was known for being a stockbroker, which means he helped people buy and sell those company pieces.

Harshad Mehta got into a lot of trouble because of something called the 1992 Indian securities scam. This was a really big problem where a lot of money, about 30,000 crore rupees, went missing or was used in a way that wasn't allowed. That's more money than you can even imagine!

It's like if all the toys in every toy store in the world suddenly disappeared. This scam made him very famous, but not in a good way.

Because of the big money mix-up, Harshad Mehta had to go to court. He was accused of many things, and even though he was only found guilty of a few, it was a very long time in court. He was on trial for nine years! Sadly, he passed away in 2001 when he was only 47 years old. He had a sudden heart attack. It's a reminder that even people who seem powerful can have health problems.

The big scam that Harshad Mehta was part of showed everyone that the rules for buying and selling company pieces needed to be stronger. It was like finding holes in a fence that allowed things to get out. Because of this, new rules were made to make sure the money system was safer for everyone.
