Harappa: A City from Long, Long Ago!

Harappa was a HUGE city that existed thousands of years ago in a place called Punjab, which is now in Pakistan. It was so big that it had about 23,500 people living there! That's more people than many schools have! The houses were made of clay bricks, and the city was as big as about 370 football fields. It was a very busy place back then.

The city of Harappa was built near a river called the Ravi. But guess what? The river decided to move! Now, the Ravi River flows about 5 miles away from where the old city used to be. The modern village of Harappa is still close to the ancient ruins, but the river isn't right next to it anymore. It's like a river playing hide-and-seek!

Sadly, when people from Britain ruled this area a long time ago, they took many of the old bricks from Harappa. They used them to build train tracks! Imagine using ancient treasures to build a railway! This damaged the old city a lot. But even though it was damaged, people still found amazing things there, like old toys and tools.

Even today, people are still learning about Harappa. Sometimes, when people try to build new things, they find old treasures from the city! It's like a treasure hunt that never ends. Harappa is so special that people want to protect it, and it's on a special list to become a World Heritage Site, like a global treasure!
