Hans Christian Andersen was a super famous writer from Denmark, a country far away! He was born a long, long time ago, in 1805. Even though he wrote many kinds of stories, poems, and even plays, he is most famous for his amazing fairy tales. These are the stories that have magical creatures, brave heroes, and sometimes even silly emperors! He wrote so many that they fill up nine whole books!

Hans Christian Andersen wrote 156 fairy tales! That's a LOT of stories. Some of his most famous ones are 'The Little Mermaid,' where a mermaid wants to be human, and 'The Ugly Duckling,' about a bird who doesn't look like his brothers and sisters but grows up to be beautiful.
