Hajji Alejandro

Imagine a singer who was so popular, he was like a superhero of music! That was Hajji Alejandro. He was born on December 26, 1954, and became a huge pop star in the 1970s and 1980s in the Philippines.

He was one of the very first Filipino music stars, and his songs made people feel happy and want to sing along. He was so cool, he was even called the 'Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala,' which means 'Heartthrob of the College Girls'!

Before Hajji Alejandro became a famous solo singer, he was part of a band called the Circus Band. He was in this band for almost three years! A friend named Basil Valdez discovered him and helped him get started. Then, in 1976, Hajji decided to go solo and become his own music star. It was like a caterpillar turning into a beautiful butterfly, but with amazing singing instead of wings!

Hajji Alejandro sang a song called 'Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika,' which means 'How Beautiful Our Music Is.' This song was so special that it won the biggest prize at two big music festivals in 1978! One was in the Philippines, and the other was all the way in Seoul, South Korea. He also sang other super popular songs like 'Tag-Araw, Tag-ulan' and 'Panakip-butas,' which were like musical adventures for your ears.

Hajji Alejandro is remembered because he was one of the first big stars of Original Pilipino Music (OPM). He showed everyone how amazing Filipino music could be! His songs were catchy and made people feel good. He inspired many other singers and musicians. Even though he passed away on April 21, 2025, his music still plays, and his voice makes us want to dance and sing, just like he wanted us to!
