Habib Bourguiba

Imagine a superhero who fought for his country's freedom! That was Habib Bourguiba. He was born a long, long time ago in Tunisia, a country in North Africa. When he grew up, Tunisia was ruled by France, and Habib didn't think that was fair. He wanted Tunisia to be its own country, where Tunisian people made their own rules. He worked super hard, and guess what? He helped make that happen!

Habib Bourguiba was like a captain leading his team to win a big game. He joined a group called the Neo Destour, which means 'New Constitution'. They wanted Tunisia to have its own laws.

The French rulers didn't like this, so they sometimes put Habib in jail! But he never gave up. He kept talking and planning until Tunisia finally became independent in 1956.

That means it was free to be its own nation!

After Tunisia became free, Habib Bourguiba became its very first president. He was like the principal of the whole country! He wanted Tunisia to be a modern place with good schools for everyone. He also believed that girls and boys should have the same chances, which was a really big deal back then. He was president for a very, very long time, almost 30 years!

Habib Bourguiba is remembered because he was a brave leader who fought for his country's independence. He helped build a new Tunisia and made important changes, like making sure everyone could go to school and that women had more rights.
