Giovanni Francesco Straparola

Giovanni Francesco Straparola was an Italian writer. He was born near a town called Caravaggio, which is like a small village. Later, he moved to a big, busy city called Venice. Venice is famous because it's built on water, with canals instead of streets! Imagine boats taking you everywhere instead of cars. This was a very different place from his hometown.

Giovanni loved stories! He collected lots of them and wrote them down in a special book called 'The Facetious Nights'. This book was like a treasure chest filled with tales. Some of these stories were fairy tales, like the ones you might hear today. He was one of the first people to write down these magical stories so everyone could read them.

In his book, Giovanni wrote down some of the very first versions of fairy tales we know. Think of Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty! His stories were like the great-grandparents of the fairy tales we love. He helped make sure these amazing adventures wouldn't be forgotten. It’s like he saved them in a giant storybook for us!

Giovanni wasn't just a story collector; he also wrote poems! He lived a long time ago, from about 1485 to 1558. That's longer ago than your grandparents' grandparents! He was a writer and a poet, which means he loved playing with words and creating beautiful sentences. He helped share stories and poems with the world.
