Meet the Speedy Ball Game!

Gaelic football is a super fun team sport from Ireland! Two teams try to score by kicking or hitting a ball into the other team's net or over a high bar. It's played on a big grassy field, kind of like a soccer field but with different goals.

Players can run with the ball, but they have to bounce it or kick it up to themselves every so often. It's a mix of soccer, basketball, and even a little bit of rugby!

How to Score Big Points!

Scoring in Gaelic football is exciting! If you kick the ball over the crossbar, that's one point. If you kick it into the net below the crossbar, that's a whole goal, worth three points!

That's like scoring three times as much! Sometimes, if you kick it really far, it's worth even more points. Umpires wave flags to show if it's a point or a goal.

A white flag means a point, and a green flag means a goal!

Irish Superstars on the Field!

Gaelic football is a huge part of Irish culture, like how baseball is in America. It's played by lots of people, and the biggest games are watched by over 80,000 fans – that’s more people than can fit in many giant stadiums! Even though it's from Ireland, people play it all over the world, like in America and even Asia. It's a sport that brings people together.

The Ball is Your Best Friend!

In Gaelic football, you can carry the ball, but you can't just run forever with it. You have to bounce it on the ground or kick it up to yourself every few steps. This is called 'soloing'. You can also pass the ball to your teammates by hitting it with your hand, like a volleyball bump. It takes lots of skill to do all these things while running fast and trying to score!
