Imagine being the very first leader of a whole country when it becomes a brand new republic! That's what Friedrich Ebert did. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1871.
He became a very important politician for a group called the Social Democratic Party. When World War I was happening, he had to make some tough choices about whether to support the war. He wanted to keep things calm at home so everyone could focus on the war.

After a big war, Germany changed a lot. It stopped being a kingdom and became a republic, like a country with an elected leader. Friedrich Ebert was chosen to be the very first president!
