French Southern and Antarctic Lands

These special places are like France's secret treasures, scattered far across the big, blue oceans! Some are islands in the Indian Ocean, like giant stepping stones. One part, called Adélie Land, is even on the icy continent of Antarctica! It's super cold there, with lots of snow and ice, but also amazing wildlife that loves the chill.

About 150 to 310 people visit during the year, but they are scientists studying cool things, or helpers keeping everything running. They are like temporary explorers, not permanent neighbors. It's a land for animals and science!

These lands are super important for birds! Millions of birds, like penguins and albatrosses, call these islands home. They have huge parties and raise their babies there. The islands are so special that a part of them is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which means it's a protected treasure for everyone to admire.
