Who Was FDR?

Imagine a president who served for a super long time, even longer than your whole school life! That was Franklin D. Roosevelt, or FDR for short.

He was the 32nd president of the United States and was in charge for 12 whole years, from 1933 to 1945. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1882, and grew up in a big house in New York. He loved to learn and went to Harvard University.

Even though he couldn't walk easily later in life, he never gave up on helping people.

Helping During Hard Times!

When FDR became president, America was going through something called the Great Depression. It was like a really bad storm where many people lost their jobs and didn't have enough money. FDR had a plan called the 'New Deal' to help.

He created new programs that gave people jobs, like building roads and parks. He also helped farmers and made sure banks were safe so people wouldn't lose all their savings. It was like he was building a safety net for the whole country!

Leading Through World War II!

After helping America get back on its feet, FDR had to lead the country during a huge fight called World War II. This was a very dangerous time. He worked with other leaders from countries like Great Britain and the Soviet Union to defeat bad guys called the Axis powers.

He helped America build lots of planes, ships, and soldiers to fight in faraway places. He even helped start the United Nations, a group of countries that try to work together to keep peace.

A President Who Never Quit

FDR was a very special president because he was the only one to be elected four times! He was so dedicated to his job that he kept working even when he was very sick. Sadly, he passed away in 1945, right at the end of World War II.

People remember him for being brave, for helping millions of Americans when they needed it most, and for leading the country through one of its hardest challenges. He showed everyone that even when things are tough, you can still make a big difference.
