Former Shu

Once upon a time, long, long ago, there was a special place in China called Shu. It was like a kingdom that had its own rulers and its own way of doing things. This kingdom was around from the year 907 to 925.

That's a long time, even longer than you've been alive! It was part of a bigger time in history called the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, which was a bit like a puzzle with many small pieces.

Sometimes, kingdoms change their names, just like you might change your favorite toy! The Kingdom of Shu decided to call itself 'Han' for a little while. This happened around the years 917 or 918.

It's important to remember that this 'Han' kingdom was different from another kingdom called 'Southern Han' that was around at the same time. It’s like having two friends with the same name, but they are different people!

Even though the Former Shu kingdom didn't last for hundreds and hundreds of years, it was still a really important part of China's story. It was one of the 'Ten Kingdoms' that existed during a time when China was split into many smaller parts. These kingdoms were like different teams playing a game, and each team had its own leaders and its own territory.

The Former Shu was one of these important teams.
