Flatworm

Imagine a creature so flat it could almost slide under a door! That's a flatworm! They are super tiny, some smaller than a speck of dust, and others about as long as your finger.

They don't have bones like you do, so they are squishy and can squeeze into tight spots. Flatworms live all over the world, in oceans, lakes, rivers, and even in damp soil. They are like nature's little clean-up crew, munching on tiny bits of food they find.

Flatworms have been around for a super, super long time, even before dinosaurs! Scientists think they are some of the oldest types of animals on Earth. They are part of a big group called 'Platyhelminthes,' which just means 'flat worms.' Over millions of years, they have changed and adapted to live in all sorts of places. Some even learned to live inside other animals, like a tiny roommate!

Flatworms have some amazing tricks! One of the coolest is regeneration. If you cut a flatworm into pieces, each piece can grow into a whole new flatworm! It's like having a superpower to regrow body parts. Some flatworms also have simple eyes that can see light and dark, helping them find food or hide from bigger creatures. They move by wiggling their bodies and using tiny hairs called cilia.

Even though they are small, flatworms are important! They help keep our watery homes clean by eating tiny bits of dead stuff. Some flatworms are also studied by scientists to learn more about how bodies work and heal. Understanding how they regrow their bodies might even help doctors in the future! So, these little wigglers play a big role in nature's big picture.
