Fission: How Tiny Things Make More Tiny Things!

Fission is like a tiny creature playing a game of 'copy and split'! Instead of having babies like puppies or kittens, some super-duper small living things, like bacteria and amoebas, just divide themselves right in half. It's like a single LEGO brick magically turning into two identical LEGO bricks!

This is the simplest way to make more of yourself, and it happens all the time in the world around us, even if we can't see it without a microscope.

So, how does this splitting trick work? First, the tiny creature makes a perfect copy of everything inside itself, like its instructions and building blocks. Then, it starts to stretch out, getting longer and longer.

Finally, it pinches in the middle and POP! It splits into two brand new, identical creatures. Each new creature is exactly the same as the one before it, ready to grow and maybe split again!

You won't see a fuzzy bunny splitting in half! Fission is mostly done by tiny, single-celled living things. Think of bacteria, the tiny germs that can sometimes make you sick, but also help make yummy yogurt!

Other examples include amoebas, which are like little blobs of jelly that can change shape. These amazing little guys use fission to grow their numbers super fast when they have enough food and a good place to live.

Even though it seems simple, fission is a super important way for life to keep going. It’s how many of the smallest living things on Earth make more of themselves. Without fission, we wouldn't have all the helpful bacteria in our tummies that help us digest food, or the tiny organisms that help clean up our planet. It’s a fundamental way life starts and spreads!
