Imagine your favorite toy car. How do the wheels stay on? Or how about the legs on your chair?

They're held on by something called a fastener! Fasteners are like tiny helpers that join two or more things together. They can be screws, nails, bolts, or even sticky tape.

Without them, lots of things would fall apart! They are super important for building everything around us, from your house to the biggest bridges.

People have been using fasteners for thousands of years. In ancient times, they used things like ropes made from plants to tie things together. Later, they learned to make nails from metal.

Think about building a wooden fort or a boat. You'd need nails to hold the wood pieces in place! As people got smarter, they invented screws and bolts, which are even stronger and can be taken apart and put back together easily.

Fasteners are like the secret superheroes of building. They let us build amazing things like skyscrapers that reach the clouds or airplanes that fly us to faraway places. They also help us fix things when they break. If a screw comes loose on your bike, you can tighten it with a screwdriver. This means things can be strong and safe, but also easy to repair. That's a pretty cool superpower!

There are so many kinds of fasteners! You probably see screws everywhere, with their twisty tops. Nails are hammered into wood to hold it tight. Bolts are often used with nuts, like a special lock and key, to hold things together very strongly. Even zippers on your jacket are a type of fastener! They all have one job: to keep things joined securely.
