Meet the Mountain Man Who Can't See!

Erik Weihenmayer is an amazing adventurer who does incredible things. He was born on September 23, 1968. Even though he can't see, he has climbed Mount Everest, the highest mountain on Earth! That's like climbing a mountain taller than 17 Eiffel Towers stacked on top of each other! He's also written books and helps people be brave.

His Big Adventures!

Erik's biggest adventure was climbing Mount Everest on May 25, 2001. He was the very first blind person to ever do it! He also climbed seven huge mountains on different continents, called the Seven Summits. Imagine visiting seven different playgrounds, each one bigger and harder than the last! He even kayaked down the Grand Canyon, which is a super-fast river.

Why Erik is Super Cool!

Erik shows everyone that not being able to see doesn't stop you from doing amazing things. He proves that if you are brave and work hard, you can achieve your biggest dreams. He started a group called No Barriers to help other people face their challenges and be strong, no matter what.

More Awesome Stuff Erik Did!

Besides climbing mountains, Erik climbed a giant rock face called El Capitan. It's so tall, it's like climbing a building that's 300 stories high! He also went down the Grand Canyon in a kayak with his friend Lonnie. They paddled for 277 miles, which is longer than driving from your house to visit your grandma in another state!
