English National Opera

The English National Opera, or ENO for short, is like a super-duper theater company in London. They put on amazing shows where people sing the whole story instead of talking! It's like a musical adventure.

The ENO is one of the two biggest opera places in London, and their special thing is that all their operas are sung in English so everyone can understand the story. They perform in a really big and beautiful building called the London Coliseum.

A long, long time ago, a kind lady named Emma Cons wanted to share fun plays and operas with people. She started putting on shows at a place called the Old Vic. Her niece, Lilian Baylis, helped her a lot and made the opera shows even bigger and better!

They moved to a larger theater called Sadler's Wells, which was perfect for opera. After many years and even a big war where they had to travel around, the opera company moved to the giant London Coliseum and became the ENO we know today!

The ENO is important because it makes opera, which can sometimes seem fancy, super accessible to everyone by singing in English. This means you can follow the story and feel all the emotions, whether it's happy, sad, or exciting! They perform all sorts of stories, from old tales to brand new ones, and even shows you might have seen on Broadway.
