Meet the Music Giant!

EMI was like a super-big company that loved music! It started a long, long time ago in London, England, in 1931. Think of it as a company that helped singers and bands share their amazing songs with everyone.

It owned famous record labels, which are like special clubs for musicians. Some of these labels were called EMI Records, Parlophone, Virgin Records, and Capitol Records. These labels helped make lots of popular music that people still love today!

Where Did the Music Come From?

EMI began as a way to bring music to people. It was originally called Electric and Musical Industries. This means it was all about electricity and making music!

Over many years, it grew and grew, becoming one of the biggest music companies in the world. It was so big that it was one of the 'Big Four' music companies, meaning there were only a few others as large as it was. It helped many artists become superstars!

Why EMI Was So Cool!

EMI was super important because it helped so many musicians get their songs heard. Imagine if your favorite singer couldn't share their music – that would be sad! EMI made sure that talented people could record their songs and have them played on the radio and sold in stores.

It was like a bridge between the musicians and the fans. Without companies like EMI, we might not have heard some of the most famous songs ever made!

The Story Continues...

Even though EMI as one big company doesn't exist anymore, its music lives on! In 2012, a new company called Universal Music bought a big part of EMI. Some of its famous labels, like Capitol Records, are now part of Universal Music.

Other parts were sold to different companies. So, while the original EMI is gone, the music it helped create is still here for us to enjoy, and the labels it owned are still making new music!
