Duty

Imagine you promise your friend you'll share your toys. That promise is a duty! Duty means you have a commitment, like a special job to do.

Sometimes it's something you have to do, like helping clean up your room. Other times, it's something you choose to do because it's the right thing. It's like being a superhero with a mission, but your mission might be to be kind or to finish your homework.

Duties can pop up from many places! Your family might have duties for you, like helping with chores. Your school has duties, like learning new things.

Even being a human gives you duties, like being nice to others. Sometimes, grown-ups have duties because of laws, like following traffic rules. It's like having different sets of instructions for different parts of your life, and following them makes things work smoothly for everyone.

Duties are like the glue that holds everything together. When everyone does their duty, things are fair and safe. If a firefighter has a duty to put out fires, and a doctor has a duty to help sick people, then everyone is looked after!

Doing your duty can sometimes be hard, like when you have to do chores instead of playing. But it makes you a reliable and trustworthy person, which is a really cool thing to be.

There are two main kinds of duties. 'Positive duties' are things you must do, like helping a friend who fell down. 'Negative duties' are things you must not do, like not taking someone else's toy without asking. Doing your duty means you are responsible. It’s like being a good teammate who always tries their hardest, no matter what.

Being responsible helps you grow and makes others feel good about you.
