Durban's Sunny Spot!
Durban is a super cool city in South Africa, right on the edge of the big, blue Indian Ocean. It's like a giant playground with warm weather all year round! The city sits on a bay, which is like a curved part of the ocean that's perfect for boats.
There's a river called the Umgeni that flows into the ocean nearby. The land in the city is mostly flat, but it goes up into hills on one side, like gentle waves of green.

People have lived in the Durban area for thousands of years! Long, long ago, clever hunter-gatherers explored the land. Later, the Nguni people made their homes here.
Then, a brave explorer named Vasco da Gama sailed by a super long time ago, around Christmas, and named the coast Natal, which means Christmas! Later, traders came and started a little town, and a Zulu king even gave them land. It grew and grew into the city we know today!
Fun Things to See and Do!
Durban is famous for its sunny beaches, perfect for building sandcastles and splashing in the waves. There are beautiful gardens with colorful flowers called the Botanic Gardens. You can also visit a place called uShaka Marine World, which is like an underwater adventure park with amazing sea creatures!
The city also has a special title: it's the first 'City of Literature' in all of Africa, meaning it loves stories and books!
Busy Port and Happy People!
Durban has one of the busiest ports in Africa, which means lots of ships come and go, carrying important things. It's like a super-duper busy loading dock for the whole continent! Many different kinds of people live in Durban, with lots of different traditions and languages, making it a vibrant and exciting place. They celebrate holidays and share yummy foods from all over the world.
