Diotima of Mantinea

Diotima of Mantinea was a super smart lady who lived a long, long time ago, around 440 BC. That's even before your grandparents' grandparents were born! She was from a place called Mantinea in ancient Greece. She might have been a real person, or maybe she was a character in a story. Either way, she was very important because she shared amazing ideas about love.

The most famous thing about Diotima is that she taught Socrates, who was a very famous thinker. Socrates told his friends all about what Diotima taught him. She explained that love, or 'Eros' as they called it, is like a ladder.
